Saturday was also the first race of the season with the National Flying Club. They were originally at Carentan but due to an unsuitable lib site the birds were moved to Fougeres. The 6076 birds were libbed at 7.30am and as with the BBC the winds all the way home were north east and with the warm temperatures the birds did not make easy work of it.
We timed a Stefaan Lambrechts widowhood hen at 12.38 flying a velocity of 1233 ypm to prov score 5th section, 50th Open and as she was not going as fast as our first BBC bird we knew she would be behind. This sprint hen was on her 3rd race of the season and was 2nd section, 10th open BICC Guernsey at the start of the channel season.
We timed our pool pigeon ‘44’ at 12.40 for a velocity of 1225 ypm she carries the best of our sprint lines in her pedigree. We had 17/20 back on the day.
Congratulation to Brian Wall for winning the race and all the other flyers who timed in some good pigeons on a tricky day.
